You probably have at least one or two "thumb drives" laying around on your desk or in your pocket. Transporting data is the most common use for these devices, but there are lots of other things you can do with a USB flash drive, including:

• Run a portable application, like OpenOffice
• Use it as an MP3 player
• Lock your PC
• Use it as an additional memory cache to supplement the memory cache on your hard drive
